Filament means that our silk threads are taken directly from the longest, highest quality fibers of the silkworm cocoon. Filament silk is unique among natural fibers in that it does not have to be spun. It naturally occurs as long continuous strands. Thus, it will not fuzz out and pull apart like spun silk. It's strength lies in this and its elasticity, which allows it to expand and contract with the pull of fabric and body movement. Seams are smoother and stitches unobtrusively disappear. Filament construction, together with silk's molecular structure of tiny prisms, gives it a smooth, reflective surface that mirrors the color fabric you are using it on, thus, blending with it. Both sizes of our three ply, Z-twist threads are superior for machine sewing. They are a joy for hand stitching as well. Because of silk's elasticity, it can be used on most medium to lightweight fabrics successfully. Our selection gives you a basic sewing thread for all your construction needs; plus a larger buttonhole twist perfect for dressy buttonholes, decorative silk embroidery, or elegant thread woven buttons (one card of #146-1000 makes four to five buttons). Colors match our China Silk and Silk Satin Ribbons. For Madder Red, choose Wine. COLORS IN BOTH STYLES
