      Stays and corsets, those lovely contraptions that moulded the "imperfectly" shaped female torso into a "perfect" hourglass, borrowed from the whale for rigidity. Baleen, the fringed plates in a whale's mouth used to strain food from seawater, was the preferred stiffener because of its flexibility and resilience. Alas, while we cannot bring you the real thing here, we offer you the next best thing . Our flexible spring steel stays are the closest to the natural material. Each "bone" is plastic coated with extra layers at the ends to guard against rusting and cutting. They are 1/4" wide and come in lengths from 2" to 20" in 1/2" increments*.
